Screenplays

FilmNot long after writing “Through My Mother’s Eyes,” a number of people began to approach me with the suggestion that I should see what I could do to get this story into film.

In the spring of 2009, I decided to write the screenplay adaption of the book. Having absolutely no idea where to begin, I took a basic and advanced screenwriting class at Santa Rosa Junior College.  Concurrent with that I began reading the best books I could get my hands on. I bought “The Screenwriter’s Bible” by Dave Trottier, “Save the Cat” by Blake Snyder, and “The Writer’s Journey” by Christopher Vogler. For my writing software I went with Final Draft. And last, but certainly not least, I bought a gallon of “butt glue” to keep me in my chair.

In May 2009 I finished the rough draft of the screenplay. It’s my first ever spec script. I’m still rewriting and polishing, but I’m very pleased with how it’s shaping up.

I belong to the Northern California Screenwriters, an organization dedicated to the education and support of aspiring screenwriters and filmmakers. The group holds weekly meetings and offers basic and advanced screenwriting classes, script evaluations, consulting, and editing services.

Our organization is also putting on the first annual Northern California Screenwriters and Filmmakers Expo on March 26, 27 and 28, 2010 at the Silverado Resort in Napa, California.
